In the season three premiere, the Time Team, reeling from the loss of Rufus, are confronted with the shocking appearance of Lucy and Wyatt from the future, and must decide whether to trust the mysterious new technology they bring with them. Flynn, Wyatt, and Connor ultimately embark on a high-risk mission to return to Chinatown and change history to save Rufus’ life, while in the bunker, Lucy has a disturbing conversation with her future self. As Rufus struggles with the aftermath of his death and unexplained return to life, he, Connor, Flynn, and Lucy chase Rittenhouse to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955, at the beginning of the American civil rights movement. The team encounters famous figures including Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Junior, in addition to less well-known players such as E.D. As Emma forcibly recruits more help for Rittenhouse, Flynn, Rufus, Wyatt, and Lucy arrive in 1960 Brooklyn on the day before the Park Slope plane crash, a midair collision which at the time was the deadliest civilian aviation accident in history. But when they realize that Rittenhouse may be after future Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg instead, they must race to save her in time, leading to a tense and harrowing situation for the whole team.

Back in the present, Flynn and Denise make a risky trip of their own to D.C., in pursuit of vital intelligence.
